In 2013, Jeremy Mogford decided to sponsor a brand new short story prize which had to specifically relate to the subject of food, drink or both. And so, he created the Mogford Food and Drink Short Story Prize.
Now in its eighth year, the Mogford Prize is open again to submissions.
The prize is a delicious £10,000.
Judges for the 2020 competition are the illustrious actor, comedian and writer Stephen Fry and Prue Leith who is a television presenter, journalist, and novelist.
What do you have to do to enter? According to the website:
“Food and drink must be at the heart of the winning tale. Your short story could, for instance, be about crime or intrigue; about a chance meeting over a drink; a life-changing conversation over dinner; or perhaps the details of a relationship explored through food or drink.”
The maximum word count is 2,500 words with no minimum. Also, the title isn’t included in your final word count (phew!).
Entries are now open. The entry fee is £10.
The competition closes 13 January 2020.
The Long List will be announced on the 11th March 2020 with the winner being announced at The Mogford Prize 2020 Party on the 1st April 2020.
