Novella competition

Ah, the novella — the oft forgotten relative of the novel. But historically novellas have shaped the literary landscape — think Kafka's The Metamorphosis or Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. So we were excited to hear about a novella competition run by Busybird Publishing. They are looking for novellas between 20,000 words and 40,000 words. If you have a novella manuscript languishing in your bottom drawer, now is your chance to spruce it up and send it off!

The winner of the last competition was Beth Hill with her novella The Uncanny Love of Jimmy Panagakos. Here's what Beth had to say about winning:

Winning the Great Novella Search in 2014 was a highlight for me as a writer. Having previously only been published in anthologies and journals it was a real buzz to have the opportunity to publish my own book, and to see a piece I had worked on over a long period of time finally come to fruition. Busybird have been supportive throughout the whole process of editing and publishing. I could not have asked for a better opportunity to get my work out there as an emerging writer.

Entry costs $25 with the winner receiving $1000, publication in print and digital formats, plus a Busybird publishing contract.
