Monday 20 April 2015
Time: 6.30–8.30pm
Although the official time is from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, you are welcome to stay as long as you like – and we imagine many of you will!
Who:
A teacher for more than 20 years, father-of-two Danny Parker started writing picture books three years ago.
His first three books were published to critical acclaim; he has two more scheduled for publication in coming months and four others already in development with publishers.
We are lucky enough to have him joining us at our April Meet-up where he will be sharing his experiences and tips with us.
His first book secured him a notable award from The Children’s Book Council of Australia while his second was voted WA Picture Book of the Year in 2012. His third book, Parachute, was shortlisted for the CBCA Picture Book of the Year in 2013 and was added to the prestigious White Ravens list.
Danny holds an honours degree in theatre from Leeds University and a Diploma of Education and has recently been appointed as writer in residence at Hale School.
What:
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to mingle with, and be inspired by, other like-minded people at various stages on their writing journey.
The night will include ice-breaking activities, a Q&A with guest speaker Danny Parker and Australian Writers’ Centre State Director Alecia Hancock. You will also have the chance to ask Danny your own questions.
We encourage you to bring two friends who share your passion for writing. If you bring a guest, both you and your guests will go into the draw to win special prizes on the night.
