Perth meet-up with Natasha Lester

Who:

Natasha Lester had always wanted to be a writer but somehow found herself studying Commerce when she left school. This led to her working in the marketing department of Harlequin UK, where she had the difficult job of choosing pictures of handsome heroes to put on the covers of books, and as a marketing executive for L’Oreal, where she had to buy a new bathroom cupboard just to store all her lipsticks. When she came back to her home in Perth, she decided to go back to university and study a Master of Creative Arts, during which time she wrote her first novel, the TAG Hungerford Award winning What is Left Over, After (2010). Her second book, If I Should Lose You was published in 2012.

The Age newspaper has described her as “a remarkable Australian talent” and she has been the recipient of grants by the Australia Council, and a writing residency from Varuna, The Writers’ House. Her work has also appeared in The Review of Australian Fiction and Overland, and the anthologies Australian Love Stories, The Kid on the Karaoke Stage and Purple Prose. In her spare time, she loves to teach writing, she’s a sought after public speaker, and she can often be found playing dress-ups with her three children or turning herself upside down at yoga.

Natasha Lester’s third novel, A Kiss from Mr Fitzgerald, will be published by Hachette Australia in 2016.  It was picked up, along with a fourth book to be published in 2017, after a bidding war between several major Australian publishers.

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to mingle with, and be inspired by, other like-minded people at various stages on their writing journey.

The night will include ice-breaking activities, a Q&A with guest speaker Natasha Lester (she will be focussing on how she got an agent and sold her book) and Australian Writers’ Centre State Director Alecia Hancock. You will also have the chance to ask Danny your own questions.

We encourage you to bring two friends who share your passion for writing. If you bring a guest, both you and your guests will go into the draw to win special prizes on the night.
