Queensland Writing Fellowships now open

Queensland writers, are you looking for a fellowship opportunity? Well, the Griffith Review Fellowships for 2020-2021 are now open.

This fellowship is not just for writers currently living in Queensland. According to the Griffith Review website:

Up to six fellowships of $3,000–$7,000 will be awarded in 2019 to Queensland writers, or those with strong ties to Queensland. The Fellowships are designed to enable writers across all genres to develop a well-considered work or further develop a work already underway, or to facilitate the next stage of a work in progress.

They’re also actively encouraging submissions from writers with diverse backgrounds, Indigenous writers and writers at any stage in their career.

What kinds of work are they looking for?
The publisher highly encourages all entrants to familiarise themselves with previous issues of the Griffith Review. Entrants should be familiar with the types of topics and themes the Griffith Review publishes.

According to the website:

Entrants are encouraged to consider their proposals in light of current Griffith Review call-outs, which cover themes of institutional reform, ageing, the connections between Europe and Australia, and the annual novella edition, as well as environmental issues, and themes of gender and sustainability.

Submissions may be in the form of essay, memoir, reportage or novella (fiction and creative non-fiction). An integrated project outline, including story structure, research underway and examples of writing, must be included – ideally a chapter or an excerpt of no less than 2,000 and no more than 5,000 words.

Are you keen on entering? Dust off your submission pieces and get cracking.

Submissions close on 16 September 2019. Winners will be announced sometime in November 2019.

Find out more about the submission guidelines and enter via the Griffith Review website.
