The Rachel Funari Prize for Fiction is back for 2017! This competition is open to women, female-identifying and non-binary writers and is hosted by Lip Magazine with the winner taking home a $1,500 cash prize and extra bonuses like a 12-month online subscription to Books + Publishing! That’s pretty cool.
This year, writers are asked to address the theme “rebirth” in a piece of up to 2,000 words.
From the press release:
“As a feminist magazine, Lip aims to nurture women's writing and provide a platform for feminist voices and stories. As such, the competition is open to all women, female-identifying and non-binary writers.
“All entries must be original, previously unpublished and unperformed.
“Rachel Funari, the namesake of the competition, was the founding editor of Lip. Tragically, Rachel went missing in 2011 while on holiday in Tasmania. This prize is held in her honour because she was determined to better the lives and opportunities for young women.”
The 2017 panel of judges includes Lucy Adams, Gabrielle Tozer and Sarah Kanake and the winner will be announced at the Emerging Writers' Festival in Melbourne.
Entries close Friday 21 April 2017. You must be an Australian resident to enter.
