- Help us build the world’s most loved and successful writers’ centre
- Guide our beloved students in choosing the right course for them
- Support a community of students as they navigate their writing courses
- Enjoy working autonomously (and remotely) as part of a great team where your efforts are recognised
Please note: This role won’t be a stepping stone for you to publish your novel – but you will help others pursue their passion for writing. This role is not for anyone looking for part-time work. We expect that you’ll be based in Sydney as we will meet up at least once a week with additional adhoc days to work together in the same office. These meetings will be held in our Milsons Point (Sydney) office.
Who are we?
We’re the Australian Writers’ Centre, a small business helping aspiring writers hone their craft and get published. Our online community is a hub for tens of thousands of writers from around the world and our presenters are some of the most accomplished authors in the country.
We’re small but mighty. We’re a team of do-ers based all over, working remotely and collaborating online. Each week we produce two award winning podcasts with over 1 million downloads to date, we manage 6 websites, thousands of students receive our emails and do our 50+ online and classroom writing courses. We’re just getting started.
What we care about most is a culture of world class customer relationships, in everything we do. We’re innovative, we’re geeks, we’re creatives, we’re writers and we’re customer obsessed. We love cats.
What are we looking for in our next team member?
We imagine you love to learn and you thrive on the personal satisfaction you get from speaking with a potential customer, knowing you have the answers to guide them toward the right decision for them. You are tech savvy and excited to learn Infusionsoft (we’ll train you) and other tools of the role.
You’re looking for a long-term, stable role. You don’t have plans to take a sabbatical, move overseas or start a full-time kitten rescue group on Facebook (although we’d applaud you for the latter). You’re happy to grow with our business and understand your role may move in line with typical small business growth.
You love delighting customers. You really care about people and you’re curious about what makes them tick. You take pride in giving our students and graduates a world class customer experience every time you pickup the phone or respond to the many email enquiries we process each day. You have energy to burn and want to implement your ideas. You are ready to step into the biggest challenge of your career.
If the following values are important to you, please apply:
– Emotional intelligence
– Self motivated
– Attention to detail
– Go the extra mile for customers, students and graduates
– Sense of humour!
What will you spend your days doing?
For the last 14 years we have been nurturing a beloved community of writers. We’re growing and we’re looking forward to you being part of the team who is responsible for sales, snappy communications and customer happiness!
A normal day will see you:
- Taking inbound calls and returning calls to potential customers.
- Responding to 30+ customer support tickets via email. Enquiries range from administrative through to writing related.
- Writing blog posts, having conversations in the written form on social media.
- Interviewing our lovely graduates and writing their stories to be published on our blog.
- Editing our written communications, the emails we send to thousands of eager writers each week.
Don’t worry if you haven’t had quite this type of experience or level of responsibility previously. This is an entry level position with room to grow. We don’t expect you to be multi-degree qualified with 15 years experience. You simply have to love writing and helping others.
What is your background / experience?
Haven’t utilised your writing skills in a professional environment but you’re experienced in supporting sales people? Great!
Natural ‘people person’ with a love of writing (and reading and authors and books and cats) but you don't like the idea of working in a ‘call centre'? Great!
If you’ve been looking for a role that would require as much of you as this role will and you’re ready for a challenge, we are keen to read your application.
What’s in it for you?
Every day you will help aspiring writers fulfil their dreams. Your ideas will be welcomed and championed. You will receive a competitive salary, recognition for your contribution and the support and guidance to do your best work. And, you’ll have the flexibility to work from home, collaborating in the cloud during office hours.
Have we described your dream job?
We’re genuinely interested in what makes you tick. Let us know how you would approach the enormous learning curve of understanding our 50+ writing courses. Write us a letter. We love reading, no really. We secretly read in our lunch breaks.
Help us get to know you. Feel free to send a video application as well. Tell us about a memorable customer service experience you’ve had, what’s the nicest thing you’ve done for a stranger, what your favourite book is and why, what drives you crazy, how you’d solve a seemingly unsolvable world problem, the best boss you’ve ever had, who you would like to learn from and why you love to write? Really anything.
